Gotta say, Shavarsh Morrissey captained his BNN video crew like a champ. The 3-cam shots, edit choices are terrific. I am massively grateful for their work that long day into night and all the post production. They caught every moment from every performer, and aced it w The Nickel & Dime Band!

NEW APPROACH:

My 80th birthday at The Brighton Music Hall - Saturday APRIL 19th, 2025 (booked by Paul Buckley and celebrating the release of our brand new record WTF!?) was a blur during and long after it was over. I haven’t watched the video out of worry that myself in particular blew it that night - the before anything began face plant for example. But this week I revisited the show via the BNN stream and was startled by how great it was.

BNN did a super hi-end job shooting and editing. They caught all those phenomenal friends of mine who beautifully and with heart opened the show, and of course all the footage of The Nickel & Dime Band in the one long stream.

I don’t include any of my earlier friends/musicians/artists - their great work is their’s to post or not - but thought it worthwhile to choose some of the footage of THE NICKEL & DIME BAND from that night.

I invaded BNN’s work and iPhone shot each NnD segment. All the edits were already done by Shavarsh Morrissey, but I needed the tunes available individually for posting on Vimeo and YouTube, so I uploaded my shaky iPhone versions, added filters here n there and a few stills, but the work essentially is all BNN.

And now the inevitable Berlin caveats:

1) It’s long. Just under 4 hours. A lot to take in. Of course you can easily jump to whomever ya want to see. (Times listed below)

2) Because of the length, the streaming buffers. Halts mid-stream here n there. After a tiny pause it gets rolling again pronto. Once back in the stream it can appear that some part is clipped out. Not the case if  ya nudge the tiny dot back a bit, recovering the full episode.

3) BNN took the audio feed from the board. No room mics. In spots some of the instruments are a bit under in volume, and some of the vocals, mine in particular, overly hot. But that’s the deal without a LOT more audio gear which would have been prohibitive and pricy. BNN charged zip.

4) Typically none of us like to see or hear ourselves in any videos. Big time true of my wizened physique. Honestly, I don’t mind seeing my face plant shiner (long story) and 80 year old saggy throat. But as I expected, in these larger rooms with fierce monitors, I can lose the fucking pitch. In some songs, Hunger Strikes in particular, I’m all over the map. Poor Laurie having to find unison or harmony w me on that beast. Things do, however, improve as Rock n Roll Romance n The Nickel & Dime charge ahead. Listening LOUD helps a lot.

Given the above, thank god BNN got it done. A one-night-only,’historic’? event with so many phenomenal artists n friends giving so much. Music, heart n soul.

I love you all.
